Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has announced Short Term Studentship Program (STS 2015) for undergraduate students. Details of STS program are given below. I would personally recommend students to apply for this program as having your name in a research and ICMR certificate is very valuable in corporate hospitals and companies. Also when student wants to apply for any scholarship or foreign university courses ICMR research will add lot of weight-age to their profile.
Notifications states “The Indian Council of Medical Research initiated the Short Term Studentship Program in 1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. The main objective of this program is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate medical students to familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects. This may serve as an incentive for them to take up research as a career in the future. The Institution must provide the student with all facilities for carrying out research.
During the last 35 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in Council’s Short Term Research Studentship (STS) program. TheCouncil has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships todeserving undergraduate students during the vacations for the year 2015.
The student is required to register on ICMR website ONLINE by 10th January 2015, submit theapplication form and proposal online latest by 27th January 2015 which will be evaluated by theCouncil. Results will be announced in April 2015 and list of selected students displayed on thewebsite. If selected, the student is expected to complete the project in any two given monthsbetween April and September 2015 and submit the report before the last date of submission i.e. 15thOctober, 2015. The student will be awarded stipend and certificate only if his/ her report is approved.
The value of the studentship will be Rs. 5,000/- per month for 2 months’ duration (Rs. 10,000/-only) and is meant to be a stipend for the student. Cost of research must be borne by Medical College/ Institution where research is carried out.”
